Implementation of the Global Reporting Initiative Social Sustainability Indicators: A Multi-Case Study Approach Using Brazilian Construction Companies

ABSTRACT
This study aims to assess the applicability and adherence social sustainability indicators by large medium-sized construction companies in Pernambuco, Brazil. The measures importance influence of these companies’ decision-making processes. from Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) were selected as they come a globally recognized widespread organization. research focuses on nine conducting semi-structured interviews, site visits, data validation through observations. results indicate that most considered have high level importance. However, are not influential their suggests should be. Currently, only 26% being measured companies, covering three 19 GRI categories. categories reported occupational safety health, local communities, customer privacy. Most would be able report other 16 with minimal additional effort. A prioritization matrix is presented according effort implement them. Overall, this reveals could easily measure indicators, making it possible more sustainable decisions less
