CT evaluation of pediatric airway foreign bodies: Emphasis on the role of CT scanning in foreign body removal with bronchoscopy

ABSTRACT
A foreign body that enters the airway through aspiration may become lodged in trachea, bronchi, or larynx. The size, shape, and type of determine where it should be lodged. Children are more frequently impacted. Unexpected inspiration during play fighting while holding something their mouths can result accidents. first study choice for any child being evaluated is still a plain film chest X-ray. Computerized tomographic examinations have slightly higher sensitivity. We report case 12-year-old boy with main complaint choking. On physical examination, there were decreased breath sounds wheezing upper left lung area. Chest x-ray revealed radioopaque needle pin-like no abnormalities both lung. results computed tomography (CT) scan showed was abaout 4cm long located bronchus. Once diagnosis made, removal bronchoscopy performed these cases. CT scans need less time evaluation provide finer image resolution, making easier to identify position, form AFBs. As result, offer great potential usefulness investigation suspected
