ABSTRACT

Temporal metamaterials have been recently exploited as a novel platform for conceiving several electromagnetic and optical devices based on the anomalous scattering response arising at single or multiple sudden changes of material properties. However, they are difficult to implement in realistic scenarios by switching permittivity time, new strategies achieve time interfaces feasible manner must be identified. In this paper, we investigate possibility realize temporal metamaterial without acting properties, but rather effective refractive index wave impedance perceived during propagation an empty guiding structure varying boundaries time. We demonstrate analytically through numerical experiments that suddenly changing physical distance between metallic plates parallel-plate waveguide will induce interface. addition standard backward forward scattered fields different frequencies due interface, also identify presence static field necessary satisfy continuity across The proposed concept can extended temporally controlled metasurfaces, opening easier path design realization time-varying microwave frequencies.
