Burden of Neonatal Surgical Conditions and Their Outcomes in a Resource-Limited Tertiary Hospital in Bangladesh

ABSTRACT
Background: In resource-constrained healthcare settings, neonatal surgical challenges contribute significantly to elevated morbidity and mortality rates, particularly in low- middle-income countries. This study aimed comprehensively investigate the demographic distribution, prevalence of conditions, procedural trends, temporal patterns, postoperative complications neonates admitted a government hospital Bangladesh Methods: A retrospective observational was conducted, analyzing data from pediatric surgery unit at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, January December 2022. Data were collected using structured forms analyzed SPSS version 22. Results: Of studied, 58.3% male, 41.7% female. Gastrointestinal system disorders most prevalent (50.76%) which followed by abdominal wall defects (18.94%), central nervous anomalies 9.1%, head, neck, face, soft tissue diseases 13.5% urogenital issues only 6.0%. Total 22.35% with notable death Gastroschisis (54.16%), Oesophageal atresia (50%) Intestinal (47.37%). Pelvic Colostomy predominant procedure (11.2%), 62.1% performed within first three days life. Postoperative affected 16.8% cases. Conclusion: highlights critical faced conditions resource-limited emphasizing distribution high rates. Addressing these is essential for improving outcomes enhancing care similar contexts worldwide.
