ABSTRACT
Objective: A contrary relationship between body mass index (BMI) and growth hormone (GH) secretion has been demonstrated in adults. BMI-specific cutoff levels are suggested for identifying deficiency (GHD) adulthood. However, specific values BMI stimulation test responses the childhood age group not certain. In this research, our purpose was to investigate GH peak response children who underwent GHST with a pre-diagnosis of GHD. Material Methods: This retrospective study stimulative testing clonidine L-dopa performed 150 2–18 year-old short stature (< -2 SDS) Pediatric Endocrinology Unit at Bakırçay University Çiğli Training Research Hospital from years 2018 2023. Anthropometric measurements, insulin-like factor-1 (IGF-I) IGFBP- 3 levels, especially peak-stimulated GH, were evaluated. Results: total patients [98 boys (65.3%) 52 girls (34.7%)] included study. The mean individuals during 10.26 ± 3.37 years, height standard deviation score (SDS) -2.64 0.89, weight SDS -1.85 1.01 -0.47 1.07. Ninety-two (63%) prepubertal. value maximum serum level (GHmax) collected 4.46 2.83 ng/mL, while 3.29 2.57 ng/mL. There no statistical distinction terms both responses. correlation BMI-SDS, tests, significantly negative [β = -0.257 (p 0.010), β -0.283 0.004), respectively]. Age, gender puberty associated value. level, 4 (>1 revealed be statistically lower than that 1 -1 SDS), nevertheless, similar detected clonidine. Conclusion: study, found GHmax BMI-SDS tests. Therefore, keeping mind when evaluating tests may guiding. Still, future studies needed make it determining factor deciding on treatment.
