The Influence of Smoking on Nicotine Exposure Biomarkers and Inflammatory Profile Among Foster Care Teenagers, Romania

ABSTRACT
Foster care young people have an increased overall risk for the development of chronic health conditions.Smoking is a major factor many conditions with inflammatory component. We performed cross-sectional pilot study to assess correlation between tobacco consumption status and profile among adolescents living foster parents in central region Romania. A number 35 teenagers aged 10-18 were enrolled. Blood samples collected by venipuncture complete blood count (CBC), fibrinogen, Interleukin-6 (IL 6), C reactive protein (CRP). Exhaled CO was measured urine same session cotinine assessment. Of 123 initially enrolled, completed entire protocol. Urinary accurately reflected smoker status. Smoking did not affect hemoglobin levels or other hematological parameters teenagers. The value C-reactive higher smokers. Plasma fibrinogen correlated daily cigarettes. correlate cigarettes consumed. Our highlights existence response smoking adolescents, social category otherwise predisposed various addictive behaviors.
