Optimizing nutrition in hepatic cirrhosis: A comprehensive assessment and care approach

ABSTRACT
Cirrhosis is considered a growing cause of morbidity and mortality, which represents significant public health problem. Currently, there no effective treatment to reverse cirrhosis. Treatment primarily centers on addressing the underlying liver condition, monitoring, managing portal hypertension-related complications, evaluating potential for transplantation in cases decompensated cirrhosis, marked by rapid progression emergence complications like variceal bleeding, hepatic encephalopathy, ascites, malnutrition, more. Malnutrition, prevalent complication across all disease stages, often underdiagnosed cirrhosis due complexities nutritional assessment patients with fluid retention and/or obesity, despite its crucial impact prognosis. Increasing emphasis has been placed collaboration nutritionists within hepatology Liver transplant teams deliver comprehensive care, practice that shown improve outcomes. This review covers appropriate screening methods status this population, diagnostic approaches context-specific nutrition treatments.
