ABSTRACT
Objective To identify clinical risk factors for abnormal elevation of blood pressure immediately after entering theatre in elderly patients scheduled phacoemulsification. Methods Case-control study design. Of 350 elective cataract (440 eyes), aged 65-94, received phacoemulsifications. Standard preoperative management was performed each patient. Blood and heart rate were recorded when on operative day. Abnormal defined as systolic ≥180mmHg and/or diastolic ≥100mmHg. Patients with categorized into the case group, otherwise control group. Clinical collected analyzed logistic regression. Results Body Weight Index (BMI) ≥30kg/m2 hypertension comorbidity significantly related to (P =0.011 0.004 respectively) which not associated anxiety, waiting duration, operation times educational level. For hypertension, anxiety level =0.016 0.023 respectively), no correlation between anxiety. Conclusions BMI comorbid are patients. Medically hypertensive low-degree severe especially high risk. It is recommended that right before be controlled below 145/100mmHg phacoemulsification. Key words: Phacoemulsification;  Hypertension;  Risk factor
