Analysis of surgical therapy on 43 cases of hepatic alveolar echinococcosis

ABSTRACT
Objective To study the operative techniques and surgical results of hepatic alveolar echinococcosis. Methods Forty three patients with echinococcosis treated in our Hospital from 2000 to 2008 were studied retrospectively. They divided into two groups: radical resection group (19 cases) palliative (24 cases). Results There 1 surgeryrelated death, 2 remote metastases, intrahepatic dissemination, 4 recurrent jaundice 3 cholangitis group. biliary fistula, patient emaciation Among 30 followed-up for ≤3-≤8 years, 10 died long-term survival rate was 28.5% (4/14). One gastric cancer cardiac long 93. 7%(15/16). Conclusions The first choice treatment is resection. Patients could be cured by Palliative surgery an option not manageable otherwise.
