ABSTRACT
Background: An undescribed species of Pseudoplectania was found during an excursion in Mpumalanga.Objectives: To describe africana M.Carbone & Sochorová as a new and to evaluate presence crystals diagnostic character Pseudoplectania.Methods: The description based on standard macro- microscopical methods. Presence tested for UV light. Phylogeny inferred using sequencing the LSU ITS loci.Results: is characterised by shortly stipitate sessile apothecia up 18 mm broad, richly developed basal tomentum, ascospores with eccentrically positioned, relatively small sheath, straight, sometimes bifurcate paraphyses, wavy coiled external hairs large yellow mainly hymenium ectal excipulum. It decaying coniferous trunk. forms distinct lineage clade P. tasmanica ericae. All these three exhibited (sulphur light). No or only hyaline (whole mount blue light) were nigrella, lignicola, episphagnum melaena.Conclusion: represents first report South Africa probably also whole continental Africa. Crystals excipulum appear be important trait taxonomy.
