Description of respiratory syncytial virus genotypes circulating in Colombia

ABSTRACT
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the most common cause of acute respiratory infections in children younger than two years but also produces infection older and even reinfection people any age, a characteristic related to existence different infecting subtypes genotypes. Although Colombia has established surveillance classical viruses, there no information about RSV genotypes circulating Colombian patients.A subgroup 227 previously positive secretion samples were taken from nationwide study, amplified sequenced define circulation pattern during 2000-2009 period Colombia.RSV exhibited seasonal behavior with an A subtype more prevalent. Both had low nucleotide variability. During study period, GA2 GA5 BA genotype B found.In this report, for first time described, adds valuable epidemiology helping understand epidemic prepare our country introduction new vaccines.
