ABSTRACT
Malignant ascites (MA) and malignant pleural effusion (MPE) are frequently developed in patients with metastatic cancer; however, the biological properties of these fluids have not been clarified. The present study explored role a low molecular fraction derived from effusions on activation peripheral blood mononuclear cells proliferation breast cancer fibroblast 55x cells. A <10‑kDa 41 oncological 34 individuals without was purified, its potential inhibiting nitric oxide (NO) production lipopolysaccharide (LPS)‑stimulated explored, as well cytotoxicity MCF‑7 significant decrease NO observed effusions. In addition, acellular MA decreased viability affecting human fibroblasts. These data support presence weight molecules samples specific defense mechanisms decreasing in vitro.
