ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to examine the role coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) in prevention steroid-induced osteonecrosis femoral head (ONFH) rats. The included 20 Sprague-Dawley rats injected once with mg/kg methylprednisolone acetate into right gluteus medius muscle induce osteonecrosis. Animals were divided two equal groups; Group 1 received no prophylaxis (control group) and 2 CoQ10. Hematological examinations performed before steroid injection (0 weeks) at 4 weeks after injection. Femoral heads examined histologically evaluate osteonecrosis.Changes blood glutathione (GSH) malondialdehyde (MDA) concentrations less significant CoQ10 group. incidence histologic changes consistent early lower group (2 10; 20%) than control (7 70%).Coenzyme may be useful as a preventing agent ONFH. Inhibited oxidative stress is possible mechanism for effect.
