ABSTRACT
The EU Landing Obligation (LO) bans discards to incentivize a more selective and sustainable fishery. This regulation may induce cost the fishing industry that could be transferred final fish consumers. We aim assess consumers’ reservation price for methodology follows two steps: first value of (willingness pay, WTP) fishery by using contingent valuation methods from comparative perspective in Spain Italy. then attempt empirically components WTP an original model specification that, unlike those presented literature, exogenizes socio-economic variables uses ideological indicators explain two-line simultaneous estimated instrumental variable regression. results show positive, though low, across samples, very different impacts coefficients on samples. A preliminary interpretation this divergence highlights Italian consumers consider LO-incentivized pure public good linked issues legality, Spanish it impure environmental issues. These differences indicate how strongly institutions policies each region are perceived human capital structure. They also problem, perceptions solutions differ according context.
