ABSTRACT
In this study, we investigated the prognostic implications of focal breast edema on preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in patients with cancer.Data 899 cancer at a single institution were retrospectively analyzed. The divided into an edema-positive group (EPG) and edema-negative (ENG) based presence peritumoral, prepectoral, or subcutaneous edema. Two radiologists evaluated absence its subtypes MRI. Clinicopathologic characteristics survival outcomes compared between two groups among three using Pearson's χ² test, Kaplan-Meier estimator, Cox proportional hazards model. There 399 (44.4%) 500 (55.6%) EPG ENG, respectively. showed significantly higher rates axillary lymph node metastasis (55.6% vs. 19.2%, p < 0.001) lymphovascular invasion (LVI) (57.9% 12.6%, than ENG. Patients worse overall (OS) rate (log-rank 0.001; hazard ratio [HR], 4.83; 95% confidence interval [CI], 2.56-9.11) recurrence-free HR, 3.00; CI, 1.94-4.63) those After adjusting for other variables, remained significant factor affecting OS rate, regardless type. Specifically, emerged as strongest predictor highest HR (p 9.10; 3.05-27.15).Focal MRI implies possibility LVI metastasis, which can lead to poor prognosis. A detailed description edema, especially may provide predictions. More intensive surveillance is required
