ABSTRACT
The model of protective immunity induced by immunization with irradiated plasmodia sporozoites (SPZ) has become the prototype for a promising vaccine strategy based on Ab and CTL responses directed against pre-erythrocytic stage Ags, in particular circumsporozoite protein (CSP) sporozoite surface 2 (SSP2). However, results from recently conducted studies suggest that T cell additional specificities might also be required protection. We have tested this hypothesis examining human lymphocytes Plasmodium falciparum SPZ-immune volunteers proliferative reactivities to parasitized red blood cells (pRBC) recombinant proteins synthetic peptides representing certain liver Ags. In work, we report although SPZ-induced is stage-specific, recognized determinants associated erythrocytic parasites. Thus, SPZ may depend upon Ags addition CSP SSP2.
