ABSTRACT
Abstract We have previously shown that in vivo nasal challenge with diesel exhaust particles (DEP) induces both quantitative and qualitative changes local IgE production stimulates generalized cytokine production. now investigated the combined effects of intranasal DEP plus ragweed allergen on humoral immune responses. collected lavages from sensitized subjects at different times after challenge. As compared alone, induced markedly higher ragweed-specific but not total levels or IgE-secreting cell numbers. Total specific IgG4 also were enhanced, while IgG not. Synergy was observed between altering profile epsilon mRNAs generated by alternative splicing, code for expressed proteins. Intranasal alone inconsistent low mucosal mRNAs. In contrast, resulted decreased expression Th1-type cytokines (IFN-gamma IL-2) elevated mRNA other (IL-4, -5, IL-6, IL-10, IL-13). This synergy natural exposure is suggested as a key feature increasing allergen-induced respiratory allergic disease.
