This article analyses the character of XIXth c. chilean liberalism. On one hand, it was successful in placing economy into world period and modernization enfraestructure. other although there were important improvements related to institutional framework economic activities, no changes social structure. In comparative perspective, author stresses need look experiences past for better understanding present.
