Metabolic Syndrome Predisposes to Depressive Symptoms

ABSTRACT
Article AbstractObjective: Previous cross-sectional studies have suggested that patients with depression a high risk for metabolic syndrome. As there is paucity of data concerning the temporal relationship and syndrome, we decided to evaluate developing depressive symptoms in syndrome population-based follow-up study. Method: The prevalence at baseline 1998 7-year 2004/2005 was studied large, middle-aged, sample collected from Central Finland. Depressive were measured Beck Depression Inventory, cutoff score 10 points. Metabolic assessed using modified National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III criteria. Results: Nondepressed women men twice as likely (OR = 2.2, 95% CI 1.1 4.5 women; OR 0.8 5.9 men) compared nondepressed cohort members without baseline.
