ABSTRACT
Background: The Kanuri tribe is found in the Lake Chad basin. However, majority of lives Borno State, Nigeria. Before this study was undertaken, factors related to fertility decisions among were not known. Objectives: This aimed at describing and documenting sociocultural affecting tribe. Method: applied qualitative research method. In-depth interviews focus-group discussions used as data collection methods. Analysis done manually.Results: Children highly valued desired irrespective their gender. ideal family size, according most respondents, 16 children. men are polygamous can marry up four wives order form large families. it an abomination women fall pregnant quick succession; a phenomenon they termed konkomi. Other reasons for child-spacing child welfare maternal well-being. Methods included prolonged breastfeeding (Nganji yaye), ornaments various forms shapes, spiritual invocations dried herbs Yandeye). Few practiced modern methods planning. Conclusion: Trends need be monitored regularly appropriate measures taken introduce promote planning health services ensure healthier life.
