Incidence of silicosis in flourmill workers

ABSTRACT
<b>Background:</b> Silicosis is an ancient occupational illness reported in silica mill workers, agate stone slate pen workers and mining industry. However its association flour has not been established. <b>Aims:</b> To study the incidence of silicosis respiratory morbidity workers. <b>Settings Design:</b> A prospective 56 working with open grinding stones was undertaken. <b>Materials Methods:</b> who volunteered following information regarding purpose were recruited from community. Detailed clinical history, lung functions, chest x-ray, high resolution computed tomography (HRCT) done. Diagnosis made on basis radiological findings. <b>Statistical Analysis:</b> Data analysis done help statistical package for social sciences software. The Chi-square test used determining relationship between qualitative data descriptive statistics where required. <b>Results:</b> 93% had symptoms that included cough (66.1%), dyspnea (75%), pain (17.1%), rhinorrhea (46.4%). Radiological abnormalities noted X-ray (60.7%) HRCT (81.48%). significant correlation seen duration exposure abnormalities. Lung functions revealed obstruction 28.5% subjects, restriction 19%, mixed ventilatory defects 21.4%, while 18.9% a reduced diffusion capacity. <b>Conclusion:</b> Incidence our containing 30.4%. They (93%) being predominant symptoms. Duration correlates findings increased silicosis.
