ABSTRACT
Background: Abdominal myomectomy remains the mainstay of surgical management uterine fibroids in our environment. However, its benefit women aged 40 years and above debatable. Materials Methods: An 11-year prospective study was conducted involving 98 women, above, who had abdominal for treatment fibroid at University Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Maiduguri. They were followed up regularly 1-6 to detect conception, resolution symptoms obstetrics performance. Data analyzed using SPSS version 13. Results: The mean age patients 42.62.9 77 (78.6%) them nulliparous. Lower swelling commonest clinical presentation size 18.68.5 weeks. Infertility with indication majority cases [48 (48.9%)], while pregnancy complications accounted 11.2% (11) Fertility restoration 10.4% among infertile patients. There complete 35.9% those required symptomatic relief, term pregnancies recorded 72.7% complications. Conclusion: Myomectomy is recommended infertility wish become pregnant. If there no need further fertility preservation, hysterectomy should be offered.
