ABSTRACT
Numerous studies have demonstrated that patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) a higher prevalence of substantia nigra (SN) hyperechogenicity compared controls. Our aim was to explore the neuroimaging characteristics transcranial sonography (TCS) PD and those dementia (PDD). The correlation between echogenicity SN clinical symptoms in Chinese PDD also assessed. The ratios (SN+), maximum sizes SN+, widths third ventricle (TV) were measured using TCS for all recruited patients. Data analyzed one-way analysis variance, rank-sum test, Chi-square receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. The final statistical included 46 patients, 52 40 There no significant differences SN+ groups (P > 0.05). TV significantly larger group (7.1 ± 1.9 mm) than (6.0 2.0 controls (5.9 1.5 mm, P < 0.05); however, enlarged did not differ among three = 0.059). When cutoff value set at 6.8 width had relatively high sensitivity specificity discriminating 0.030) 0.003), based on ROC analysis. In more frequently detected akinetic-rigid subgroup, showed Hoehn Yahr stage Nonmotor Symptoms Questionnaire scores 0.05).Compared PD, wider TV, altered sonographic features, severe symptoms. findings suggest can be used assess brain atrophy may useful without dementia.
