Prevalence of psychiatric comorbidities in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Psychiatric disorders, especially anxiety and depression have been reported to an increased prevalence in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients, but there is a paucity of data from India. Aims Objectives: Aim our study the frequency psychiatric comorbidities COPD patients their correlation with severity COPD, as per global initiative for lung guidelines. Materials Methods: This was conducted outpatient department tertiary care hospital (King George's Medical University). A total 74 were included this compared controls. The diagnosis assessed by spirometry. using Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview questionnaire. Results: significantly higher (P < 0.05) (28.4%) controls (2.7%). As regards severity, severe very COPD. increase duration symptoms being present 67% more than 10 years only 23% ≤5 years. Conclusion: We recommend that all should be screened comorbidity, if any.
