Evaluating the metformin use on type 2 diabetes prevention in high-risk populations in primary care

ABSTRACT
A BSTRACT Purpose/Background: To identify the proportion of patients with prediabetes who have prescribed metformin and factors related to doing so as a preventive measure for diabetes in primary care at Family Medicine Unit northeastern Mexico. Methods: This retrospective observational study included 372 adults met criteria diagnosis according American Diabetes Association. Data was collected from medical records January 2020 December 2021. Possible associations between variables interest prescription were tested via hypothesis tests, furthermore, binary logistic regression performed. Results: Nearly 85% least one criterion receiving ADA recommendations, but only 60% them this medication. Patients prescriptions differed those without aspects such having documented their records, higher BMI, glucose levels. Conclusions: Almost out two high risk type 2 are not treated measure.
