Fingerprint Examination by Gender in Healthy Turkish Population

ABSTRACT
Abstract Background: Dermatoglyphic forensic institutions provide important information that can also be used in the field of anthropology and medicine. To expand existing data Turkish society increasing literature on fingerprint. Materials Methods: This study was conducted with 147 healthy young people. The parameters examined were compared between right left hands genders. fingerprints divided into two groups as whorl, loop, arch, accidental pattern. In addition, “total finger ridge count, absolute Pattern Intensity Index (PII), Cummins index (CI), Poll (PI), Dankmeijer (DI), Volotzkoy (VI), Furuhata’s (FI)” both right-left separately calculated. Results: joint evaluation 10 fingers genders, most common type found to loop population are follows (respectively, female male): PII – 13.2/12.6, CI 0.1/0.2, PI 1/1, DI 11.9/33.3, VI 132.3/126.7, FI 128/133.7. There no significant difference males females ( P > 0.05). Conclusions: According obtained, correspond Mediterranean subgroup European races. Moreover, seen this study, ulnar density is more Eastern countries.
