A retrospective cohort study of myocarditis prevalence and diagnosis in Al‐Baha region, Saudi Arabia

ABSTRACT
Background: Carditis describes heart inflammation with a variety of symptoms ranging from mild chest pain to cardiac shock or even sudden death. Myocarditis will result in failure (HF) around 12%–17% adults, death rate approximately 8.4/100,000. The causatives myocarditis include viral, bacterial, fungal, and protozoan infections. Aims: This retrospective cohort study aimed statistically analyze the prevalence diagnosis other cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) among admitted patients Al-Baha Hospitals Saudi Arabia. Setting Design: involved 384 diagnosed CVDs at Hospital between January 2017 December 2022. Statistical Analysis Results: Overall, patients’ ages ranged 25 94 years, averaging 59 ± 14. majority different were aged 41 70 years (69% myocardial infarction (MI), 48% HF, 56% block). Most male (80%), 90% participants Saudis. incidence showed gradual increase 2019 dramatic 2020 2022 compared years. analysis included most common laboratory markers for diagnosis. an lactate dehydrogenase (91%), creatine kinase (CK) (95%), CK-myocardial band (93%), aspartate aminotransferase (94%), white blood cells (89%) who MI CVDs. Conclusions: It is important note that while electrocardiogram, complete count, profile form core diagnostic protocol, additional measures may be considered depending on specific circumstances.
