ABSTRACT
Cellular senescence is an irreversible form of cell cycle arrest that has been linked to several pathological conditions. In particular, can function as a tumor suppressor mechanism, but also thought contribute organismal aging. Paradoxically however, through the secretion various factors, collectively termed senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP), senescent cells have tumor-promoting and tissue-remodeling functions. addition, play beneficial roles in tissue repair wound healing, reconciling these contradictory features from evolutionary standpoint challenging. Moreover, had not previously documented non-pathological Recently 2 studies identified cellular programmed mechanism contributes patterning remodeling during normal embryonic development. These findings significant implications for our understanding help clarify paradoxes origin this process.
