ABSTRACT
Aloe products are one of the top selling health-functional foods in Korea, however adequate level intake to achieve desirable effects not well understood. The objective this study was determine intestinal uptake and metabolism physiologically active aloe components using vitro absorption model. Caco-2 cell monolayer everted gut sac were incubated with 5-50 microM aloin, aloe-emodin, aloesin. basolateral appearance test compounds their glucuronosyl or sulfated forms quantified HPLC. % aloesin ranged from 5.51% 6.60%, 6.60% 11.32%, 7.61% 13.64%, respectively. Up 18.15%, 18.18%, 38.86% aloesin, respectively, absorbed as glucuronidated form. These results suggest that a significant amount is transformed during absorption. rate except similar two models; more than monolayer. provide information establish supplements maintain effective plasma level.
