ABSTRACT
The effectiveness of natural compounds in improving athletic ability has attracted attention both sports and research. Gynostemma pentaphyllum (Thunb.) leaves are used to make traditional herbal medicines Asia. active components G. pentaphyllum, dammarane saponins, or gypenosides, possess a range biological activities. On the other hand, anti-fatigue effects from extract (GPE) its effective compound, gypenoside L (GL), remain be determined. This study examined GPE on fatigue exercise performance ICR mice. was administered orally mice for 6 weeks, with without treadmill training. biochemical analysis serum, glycogen content, mRNA, protein expressions liver muscle were analyzed. The ExGPE (exercise 300 mg/kg body weight/day GPE) decreased fat mass percentage significantly compared ExC mice, while showed greatest lean group. administration improved endurance capacity treadmill-trained increased glucose triglycerides, serum creatine kinase lactate levels after intensive exercise. higher group than level mitochondrial biogenesis by enhancing phosphorylation peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ coactivator-1α (PGC-1α) mRNA expression nuclear respiratory factor 1, DNA, receptor-δ, superoxide dismutase 2, decreasing dehydrogenase B soleus (SOL). also PGC-1α activation SOL through AMPK/p38 phosphorylation. These results that supplementation enhances activity. In addition, underlying molecular mechanism elucidated. Therefore, is promising candidate developing functional foods
