ABSTRACT
In several studies, low spirometric levels have been shown to increase the success rates of smoking cessation, whereas other studies indicated that pulmonary function has no effects on quitting smoking. Given fact there are contradictory results this subject, we aimed investigate effect identifying airway obstruction via spirometry and its explanation subjects rate cessation in short term.Subjects who were admitted out-patient clinic, underwent tests (PFTs) completed at least 3 months program following their admittance included study. At first interview, all asked about comorbid diseases habits. PFTs performed. Subjects had an PFT informed condition was smoking-related, further deterioration could be prevented cessation. Then date determined together with one medicines prescribed. All given control appointments twice for month once per 2-month follow-up period. CO between 0 5 parts million considered as non-smokers.The mean age 563 41.9 ± 12.1 y 340 (60.4%) male. A total 162 (28.8%) came visits interview. The 11.3% 39.5% visits. Of PFT; 22.8% stopped smoking, 8.4% without did so (P < .001). percentage significantly higher .001) FEV1 % = .005), FEV1/FVC .001), forced expiratory flow 25-75% .008) lower quitters compared non-quitters.
