ABSTRACT
The bioconversion of the hydrophobic and volatile limonene to perillic acid, a potential anticancer agent, by yeast Yarrowia lipolytica was studied in two steps. Firstly, experimental design used for process optimization using high-purity as substrate secondly orange essential oil containing 89.1% under previously optimized conditions. Limonene concentration pH were identified fractional factorial significant factors central composite design. Under conditions (0.16% (v/v) limonene; 6.9), 24 h biotransformation resulted accumulation 0.368 g·L-1 acid corresponding molar yield 23.1%. A subsequent addition same reaction doubled 0.793 24.2%. use increased both 0.872 29.7%, respectively. robustness Y. allowed efficient crude by-product citrus industry into valuable fine chemical.
