ABSTRACT
The ability of an organism to adapt aversive stressful situations or life challenging circumstances is very crucial its state health and survival. However, breakdown in adaptation due persistent uncontrollable stress, leads impairment bodily functions onset a variety pathological disorders especially memory decline. This study was designed evaluate the effect Jobelyn® (JB), potent antioxidant sorghum-based food supplement on unpredictable chronic mild stress (UCMS)-induced mice. Male Swiss mice were given JB (5 - 50 mg/kg, p.o) 30 min prior exposure UCMS for 14 consecutive days before testing memory. Thereafter, serum corticosterone level estimated by using ELISA kits. levels malondialdehyde (MDA) glutathione (GSH) as well acetylcholinesterase activity brain homogenate spectrophotometer. Histology tissues estimation populations viable neurons hippocampal region done after staining with hematoxyline eosin. Our results showed that reversed suppressed concentrations induced UCMS. Moreover, reduced oxidative UCMS-mice shown decreased MDA elevated GSH concentrations. It also when compared group (p < 0.05). Furthermore, 10 offered significant protection against UCMS-induced degeneration death neuronal cells cornu ammonis 3 (CA3) indicating neuroprotection. Taken together, these findings suggest attenuates deficits may be useful therapeutically stress-related cognitive dysfunctions. reduction corticosterone, antioxidation, neuroprotection inhibition cholinesterase enzyme might contributing significantly positive exposed stress.
