ABSTRACT
The quality and coverage of the available taxonomical geographical information recognition that diversity is multi-faceted are two main factors hinder to understand spatial temporal variations biodiversity. In this study, we aim quantify global distribution five components used assess freshwater fish in river basins around world. multidimensional character these was estimated so obtained dimensions mapped. This done taking into account those well-surveyed discriminated by considering collector’s curves, additionally controlling for effect survey effort on all considered components. A total 1,472,109 occurrence records were analysed, corresponding 17,292 species fishes. Five considered: functional richness, taxonomic diversity, rarity measures. Well-surveyed using accumulation curves. effects biases knowledge gaps minimized determining relationship each component with completeness values calculated basin. pattern derived from raw data skewed unequal available, positively correlated values. first dimension described association between richness diversity. second represented congruence suggests ecosystem functions increase number present a decrease may involve loss functionality. levels many species-poor found arid cold regions suggest distinctiveness their fishes primarily consequence how isolated are.
