Some Challenges Militating against Developing Countries Achieving SDG 4 on Targets: Nigeria as Case Study

ABSTRACT
The Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, which is "ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all", a critical goal that needed to be achieved improved of life the developmental advancement any nation. United Nations reports identified some major challenges can hinder Nigeria from achieving this goal: they include poor funding in budgets, out-of-school-children, prolonged neglect environments facilities, among many others. We evaluated those factors funding, school enrolment/out-of-school-children infrastructure using fishbone problem tree analysis also applied qualitative descriptive assessment 7 SDG 4 targets 3 enabling targets. Funding was as key issue it an underlying factor militating against achievement other challenges. challenge enrolment cannot resolved with persisting insecurity Almajiri problems northern parts Nigeria. Without concerted effort increase budget ensuring allocated funds are not misappropriated, will possible achieve 4. This position reinforced by fact currently ranked 159 out 162 nations our performance towards SDGs too good during Millennium Goals (MDGs) era.
