In Brazil, there are five species of sea turtles, commonly known as loggerhead ( Caretta caretta ), green turtle Chelonia mydas hawksbill Eretmochelys imbricata olive ridley Lepidochelys olivacea ) and leatherback Dermochelys coriacea ). All considered endangered under national international criteria. Human action has caused many impacts on marine ecosystem threatened its biodiversity. Several microorganisms inhabit this able to cause infectious diseases. Therefore, environment changes contribute the emergence diseases, such fibropapillomatosis in turtles. The ingestion solid anthropogenic debris is another important menace organisms. context, present study aims investigate presence bacterial agents Vibrionaceae Aeromonadaceae Families, occurrence fibropapillomatosis, interaction with stranded turtles found along central-north coast Rio de Janeiro state, thus assess health status these organisms their environment. For this, beach monitoring was made at intervals 15 days area by GEMM-Lagos / Oceanites staff 2009. Sea were identified level checked for external tumors. Specimens, when fresh, necropsied gastrointestinal contents screened evaluate debris. Swabs also collected bacteriological analysis conducted LRNCEB FIOCRUZ -- an innovative survey Brazil. 143 area, only four 68 analyzed had 44% 32 debris, indicating a potential turtles' death region, specially Chelonias . 88% swabs positive Vibrio 53% Aeromonas. Thus, sentinels health, indicate environmental degradation prompting need urgent mitigation actions. Keywords: Marine chelonians; pathogenic microorganisms; tumors; plastic debris; health.
