ABSTRACT
Semelparity, the life-history strategy characterized by death after first reproduction, is restricted in mammals to only two marsupial families, Dasyuridae Australasia and Didelphidae Neotropics. Among didelphids, studies suggest a semelparous pattern for mouse opossums of genus Marmosops. These have revealed that both sexes may low survival rates reproduction distinct Atlantic Forest populations. However, strategy, which usually considered speciesspecific trait, can also be found some populations species. Thus, this study, we aimed investigate occurrence life population M. incanus an area PARNA Serra dos Órgãos, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, through estimates using 13-year capture-mark-recapture data from long-term study. We established cohorts, grouping capture histories individuals born end breeding season. built global model recapture vary with time between sexes, addition interaction these factors. Model selection averaged were accordance incanus, being affected sex time. Even though females was higher than males as expected, difference small. Here confirm another displays supporting previous considerations museums specimens. Nonetheless, causes mechanisms semelparity didelphid species are still understood.
