Provider and User Acceptability of Integrated Treatment for the Control of Malaria and Helminths in Saraya, South-Eastern Senegal

ABSTRACT
Integration of vertical programs for the control malaria, schistosomiasis, and soil-transmitted helminthiasis has been recommended to achieve elimination malaria neglected tropical diseases (NTD) by 2030. This qualitative study was conducted within context a randomized controlled trial explore perceptions views parents/caregivers at-risk children healthcare providers determine their acceptability integrated malaria-helminth treatment approach. Randomly selected enrolled in trial, providers, staff, NTD program managers were interviewed using purpose-designed topic guides. Transcripts obtained from interviews coded common themes identified content analysis triangulated. Fifty-seven participants comprising 26 parents/caregivers, 10 aged ≥ years, 15 four two Senegal Ministry Health interviewed. Thirty-eight (66.7%) males, ages ranged 65 years. Overall, approach considered acceptable, but expressed concerns about taste, smell, side effects associated with amodiaquine praziquantel combination package. Reluctance accept medications also observed among 14 years due peer influence gender-sensitive cultural beliefs. Addressing taste smell is needed optimize uptake program. Also, culturally appropriate strategies need be put place cater inclusion this
