ABSTRACT
Objective: To evaluate laryngeal penetration and aspiration in upright side-lying positions children with unilateral vocal cord paralysis (VCP) who underwent modified barium swallow study (MBSS). Methods:A retrospective chart review (Pro00089051) of pediatric patients were diagnosed VCP MBSS was performed.Patients identified using diagnostic code for based on diagnosis via flexible laryngoscopy.Once identified, notes reviewed data regarding penetration, tracheal aspiration, body position during the exam.Information collected various consistencies liquids used. The order positioning recorded had undergone both study.Data analyzed chi-square analysis. Results: 811 between 2011 2014.Of these, 90 isolated VCP, those patients, 23 (26%) positions. When all evaluated, there no difference or noted thin liquids.Importantly, among that been studied positions, significant differences relating to any consistency. Conclusion:Rates not associated at our institution. However, due an incomplete set a small sample size these results should be further explored prospective studies.
