ABSTRACT
Musculoskeletal (MSK) problems are common, and a recent US Bone Joint Initiative calls for new models of education professional collaboration. Evidence feasibility acceptability innovative methods needed.We assessed if an experimental immersion interdisciplinary MSK curriculum would be acceptable to residents from different specialties, feasible within existing rotations, effective in strengthening clinical skills.Through funding the Veterans Affairs Office Academic Affiliations Specialty Care, we developed Center Excellence Care Education. A core element is monthly Education Week, which teaches skills provides opportunities apply these settings. Participants include internal medicine, physical medicine rehabilitation, orthopaedic surgery residents, as well students other health professions programs. All were assigned week lieu experiences. Faculty encompassed primary care, rheumatology, endocrinology, orthopaedics, rehabilitation. Assessments surveys 2-station objective structured examination (OSCE).Since 2012, total 176 trainees have participated. Percentage reporting ability evaluate manage complaints increased (9% 87% shoulder; 18% 86% knee), confidence performing injections 10% 70%. Competency evaluation shoulder knee pain was confirmed by OSCEs.The program accepted 3 with learners improved perform examinations, demonstrated OSCEs.
