Uptake of diabetes testing and associated individual-level factors among people with a familial risk of diabetes mellitus in rural Kenya.

ABSTRACT
People with family history of diabetes are expected to have regular testing owing their higher risk the disease. Regular is associated early diagnosis and has a potential reducing health economic burden caused by This study therefore sought determine uptake individual-level factors among relatives individuals type 2 (T2D). Understanding significant step towards promoting both primary secondary prevention this group at risk. was cross-sectional 202 adult patients T2D in Kiambu county Kenya. Multi-level sampling technique employed interviewer-administered questionnaire used collect data. Descriptive statistics, Chi-square test for independence Fisher's exact as well multivariate logistic regression were analyze data 0.05 level significance. The approved Institutional Ethics Review Committee Jomo Kenyatta University Agriculture Technology. results indicated that 52.5% had never blood glucose test. Individual statistically association included residence (p=0.003), employment status (p=0.019), familial awareness (P=0.003), perceived (p=0.002), knowledge signs symptoms (p=0.001) relationship patient (p=0.045). Living farms (AOR=3.9, p=0.002), being aware own (AOR=2.5, p=0.016), high (AOR=2.3, p=0.017) close relative (AOR= 3.0, p= 0.041) increased testing. In conclusion, low several can be modified increase uptake. Strategies such education should enhanced.
