ABSTRACT
Over US$76 billion from a US$225 global harvest of rice, wheat, barley, maize,
potato, soybean, cotton and coffee are lost to plant diseases (Oerke et al., 1994). The
costs managing disease growing less-profitable alternative crops among other
significant economic impacts diseases. sociopolitical repercussions major
epidemics such as the Irish potato famine (1845-1846) Bengal
(Padmanabhan, 1973) threat human animal health (IARC, 1993; Payne
Brown, 1998) mycotoxins fungal metabolites go far beyond simple
economic impacts. In USA alone, aflatoxin, fumonisin deoxynivalenol cause over
$1.5 loss (Cardwell 2001). Mycotoxins regularly suffering
life in developing countries (Bhat 1988), where monitoring detection not
advanced.
