ABSTRACT
Phenylketonuria (PKU) results from congenital defects of amino acid metabolism. Accumulated phenylalanine crosses the blood-brain barrier and causes permanent brain damage, but neuro-pathophysiology underlying phenylketonuria is not fully understood. Chemically-induced rat model both genders was generated to examine role inflammatory response, lipid peroxidation oxidative stress in prefrontal cortex. Our showed that there an increase compared controls, which significantly different only males (p<0.001). In male PKU groups, statistically significant differences were also observed serum tryptophan (p<0.001) interleukin-1β levels (p=0.014) as controls. this study, gender-based changes neuroinflammation reported for first time a model.
