ABSTRACT
SPHEREx is a proposed NASA MIDEX mission selected for Phase A study. would carry out the first all-sky spectral survey in near infrared. At end of its two-year mission, obtain 0.75-to-5$\mu$m spectra every 6.2 arcsec pixel on sky, with resolution R>35 and 5-$\sigma$ sensitivity AB$>$19 per spectral/spatial element. More details concerning are available at http://spherex.caltech.edu. The team has three specific science investigations to be carried this unique data set: cosmic inflation, interstellar circumstellar ices, extra-galactic background light. Though these themes undoubtedly compelling, they far from exhausting scientific output SPHEREx. Indeed, create database including very large numbers astronomical solar system targets, both extended diffuse sources. These enable wide variety investigations, dedicated making community which we refer as Legacy Science. To that end, have sponsored two workshops general identify most interesting Science ensure products responsive their needs. In February 2016, some 50 scientists all fields met Pasadena develop understand implications mission. 2016 workshop highlighted many synergies between other contemporaneous missions, facilities, databases. Consequently, January 2018 convened second Center Astrophysics Cambridge focus specifically synergies. This white paper reports results workshop.
