ABSTRACT
The European Spallation Source, currently under construction in Lund, Sweden, is a multidisciplinary international laboratory. Once completed to full specifications, it will operate the world's most powerful pulsed neutron source. Supported by 3 million Euro Research and Innovation Action within EU Horizon 2020 program, design study (HighNESS) has been develop second source located below spallation target. Compared first source, designed for high cold thermal brightness, new optimized deliver higher intensity, shift longer wavelengths spectral regions of (CN, 2--20\,\AA), very (VCN, 10--120\,\AA), ultracold (UCN, ${>}\,{500}$\,\AA) neutrons. comprises large liquid deuterium moderator produce CN support secondary VCN UCN sources. Various options have explored proposed designs, aiming world-leading performance neutronics. These designs enable development several instrument concepts facilitate implementation high-sensitivity neutron-antineutron oscillation experiment (NNBAR). This document serves as Conceptual Design Report HighNESS project, representing its final deliverable.
