ABSTRACT
Building upon the considerable advances in Large Language Models (LLMs), we are now equipped to address more sophisticated tasks demanding a nuanced understanding of cross-cultural contexts. A key example is recipe adaptation, which goes beyond simple translation include grasp ingredients, culinary techniques, and dietary preferences specific given culture. We introduce new task involving cultural adaptation recipes between Chinese English-speaking cuisines. To support this investigation, present CulturalRecipes, unique dataset comprised automatically paired written Mandarin English. This further enriched with human-written curated test set. In intricate evaluate performance various methods, including GPT-4 other LLMs, traditional machine translation, information retrieval techniques. Our comprehensive analysis includes both automatic human evaluation metrics. While exhibits impressive abilities adapting into English, it still lags behind expertise when translating English Chinese. underscores multifaceted nature adaptations. anticipate that these insights will significantly contribute future research on culturally-aware language models their practical application culturally diverse
