ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to explore different psychosocial impacts on Omani women diagnosed with breast cancer.Semi-structured individual interviews were conducted 19 cancer describe the impact disease their personal and social life. Women recruited from wards out-patient clinics at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, Muscat.Four main themes emerged. These were: a) factors related psychological distress uncertainty (worry death, interference work family responsibilities, searching for hope/cure, travelling overseas); b) reactions members (shocked, saddened, unity, pressure seek traditional treatments); c) views society (sympathy, isolation, reluctant disclose information); d) worries threats about future (side effects chemotherapy, spread disease, effect offspring).Breast diagnosis has several devastating in Oman. Healthcare professionals working should be aware women's lives. Appropriate measures must taken by decision makers whenever needed, including enforcing positive support Oman's towards cancer.
