ABSTRACT
This paper discusses the mechanism of change and therapeutic techniques central to Functional Analytic Psychotherapy (FAP). Based on experimental analysis behavior, contingencies reinforcement are viewed as an important leading significant improvements. The issue addressed in this concerns how a therapist can make maximum use reinforcement, given that client´s problems occur daily life. FAP emphasizes client-therapist relationship providing opportunities for immediate shaping improved behavior. principles functional used explain actual instances life during session, change, then mediating generalization from improvements session Central concepts discussed include: clinically relevant behavior (CRB), natural interpersonal processes, behavioral implications intense emotional therapistclient relationship, private cognitions language (verbal behavior). Five rules guide therapists facilitating transformative work with their clients also discussed.
