ABSTRACT
This study aimed to determine the epidemiological characteristics of colorectal cancer in Turkey.In this multicenter, prospective, and cross-sectional registry study, data for 968 patients with from 21 centers 7 geographic regions were analyzed.Diagnosis was colon 662 (68.4%) rectum 306 (31.6%) patients. In total, 60.9% male; mean age 58.9±12.6 years. Among patients, 15.0% drinking alcohol, 17.5% smoking, 1.5% had familial history polyposis, diabetes mellitus, 1.0% inflammatory bowel disease. Fruit vegetable consumption low (<3 times/week) 35.5% red meat high (≥3 47.4% Median time-to diagnosis 3.0 months 4.0 cancer, respectively. Mean body mass index >25 all group Distal (61.3%) sigmoid (36.8%) most common locations 85.6% operated; 25.8% emergency surgery. Low anterior resection rate 64.2% cancer. majority (89.8%) who received preoperative treatment, conventional chemo-radiotherapy regimen given. pTNM staging at showed that stage III IV (35.9% 29.7%, respectively).Colon is more frequent than Turkey. Colorectal are diagnosed later stages. Most cases operated. Interregional differences risk factors worthwhile evaluation future trials.
