ABSTRACT
Global reanalyses are known for more than 25 years and widely used monitoring climate variability change, academic purposes commercial applications. Meanwhile, they a fundamental part of operational services such as the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S). Recently, also regional that provide higher spatial temporal resolution became popular. Examples exploitation include applications in energy sector. Of special interest variables wind speed at hub heights modern turbines (offshore onshore), near surface temperature solar irradiance. Moreover, potentially useful dealing with extremes storms, anomalies including heat waves droughts. Here we show results from an evaluation approach is production process reanalysis COSMO-REA6 Generation 2 (R6G2), currently produced by Germany’s national meteorological (Deutscher Wetterdienst, DWD). Numerous datasets observational reference, based either on in-situ measurements stations towers or satellite-borne remote sensing technology. Different products ERA5, HoKliSim-De benchmark. The technical infrastructure standardised provided MAVIS system which builds Freva (Free Evaluation System Framework, https://doi.org/10.5334/jors.253). One user requirement availability uncertainty information. There has been evidence ensemble information required representation individual extreme events storms. capability requirements application framework to ensemble-based will be discussed.
